I had a little fun this week making Valentines. This one fits this weeks Simple Salutations Challenge to use a heart. In my family, cards that the recipient can play with are always a big hit, so this one has a little flap tag that can be opened. The tag was easy to create. I folded my red cardstock in half and scored it. Scoring is important here. I rarely bother but will for this. I then put my folded and scored edge and butted it right against the cutting edge of my heart diecut and taped it in place. A little movement in the die cutting machine is not good for this technique. Once I ran my cardstock through my Big Shot, I had a heart tag. This technique works well for any die cut that has a straight edge.
The sentiment on the front is from MFP's new Swans set. The inside is a mix. I took the "forever" from another sentiment from Swans and masked off the rest of the sentiment so I only had the one word. "And" was from the "Chill is in the Air" set and was actually part of the word "stand" in one of the longer sentiments from that set. I inked the word and then carefully used a baby wipe to leave only "and" inked. I then did the same thing to the word forever to create my own sentiment. It can be lots of fun to play with words to create new sentiments. What can I say - I loved Magnetic Poetry when it came out.
To keep my tag closed, I needed a way to tuck in my flap. The darker heart is mounted on small leftover bits of EZMount to give it some height. I can then bend the flap closed and tuck it underneath. It may not look obvious from the pictures but the recipient will be able to find the flap. Especially since DH knows I like to make this kind of card.
