I really loved the CAS (clean and simple) layout on Speedy TV's Sketch with a Twist for this week. The twist is watercolouring. I really hope you'll join us this week.
After mangling several pieces of watercolouring paper, I found this embossing technique where you heat emboss the image with white embossing powder and then watercolour. Ta-da, no more ink running and blurring the image. Better yet, it gives such a soft image, perfect for a spring card. I tried a notecard today - 3.75*5 inches. I used an image from MFP's Winter Crocus set. I actually stamped it three times. First I did the centre image and then masked it and stamped the image again on the left and right. Watercolouring really softens the colours. The leaves are Wild Wasabi, the grass is Garden Green. The crocuses are Elegant Eggplant, same as the border panel and the sky is supposed to be Brocade Blue but I didn't clean the brusha after colouring the crocuses and it gave me a wonderful blended effect. The sentiment came from Dogwood Blossoms. I am so going to have to try this technique again. I'm wondering what the effect is if I used black or gold embossing powder. Do you think I'd get a stained glass effect?

ReplyDeleteHi Christine! Love your beautiful card!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question about my card, yes I painted it. You spritz your water color paper with water and lay the cheesecloth on it, then just drip different colors of watercolor paint over it. Let it dry then remove the cheesecloth. You can do this technique with weeds and seeds too. I learned from a lady who took a class at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina. She taught me quite a few techniques.

Hi Christine! Please do try this technique! Another one is to wet your paper, add your watercolor and sprinkle with salt. Have fun!
